And One for “Right Now”

And One for “Right Now”

Today, we bought tickets to our next location: Krakow.  Unlike the lady who sold us the tickets to Prague, this lady informed us that our Eurail passes are not valid in Poland.  Therefore, in addition to a bed reservation, we got a ticket from the Polish border to Krakow.

We went to a museum of medieval torture instruments.  It was very well done, and they had a lot of gadgets, both obscure and well-known.  They also had an 80s metal band on display.

After the torture museum, we tried to get to the Royal Gardens.  We got lost as hell.  It took us many random Czech people and a tourist information office, but we made it.  They were pretty.  They even had stuff made of flowers.

While in the park, we saw two kinds of cool animals.  First, there was a birds-of-prey exhibit where they had some Peregrine Falcons, Czech Hawks, and a Golden Eagle.  The Golden Eagle was big and fluffy.   We talked to the lady for a while about birds back home versus the birds they had on display.  She was really into birds, so it was interesting.

Second, we saw a rare and elusive creature.  It was a creature neither of us thought we’d see in captivity, much less in its natural habitat.  However, see it we did.  BEHOLD!
Majestic.

Yes, that is the Forest Roomba in its natural habitat.  Yes, you’re jealous.  No, we didn’t capture it.  It was too beautiful at home in the wild.  We had to let it go.

We gave looking for antique swords a shot.  We found one place that had some.  They had a pretty all right Czech sabre from 1820, but I wasn’t in love with it.  I have a few sabres, and I want something different.  You know, like a hand-and-a-half, a claymore, or a broadsword.  Yeah!

We had seen plenty of churches on our trip, so we decided to check out Josefov, Prague’s Jewish quarter.  As is the norm for us, the synagogues were all closed.  Defeated, we went to the train station.  It started to rain right as we got inside.  Will and I have avoided rain pretty much our entire trip.  I think it’s rained once?  Maybe?  It’s never interfered with our activities.  Apparently, Europe has been getting tons of rain; we’ve just been dodging it.  If you look at our path on a map, it makes sense.  How can rain catch you when you’re moving around like a crazy person?

As a side-note, we really like the Czech Republic.  It’s a lot like home.  It has similar gun laws, it sells PEANUT BUTTER (fucking SKIPPY, man!  Do you have any idea how hard it is to find peanut butter in Europe?!  In a month-and-a-half, we’ve seen it once before here.), everyone speaks great English, and it just feels…America-y.  We should probably just merge the two countries.  Hooray for Czechmerica!

P.S.  Prague looks waaaay nicer than American cities.  And they have trains.

Will’s Corner
Prague is pretty much the only city to date, other than Missoula, MO, that hasn’t made me feel claustrophobic.
