And One for Nap Time and Juice Boxes

And One for Nap Time and Juice Boxes

We got an early enough start for breakfast today.  Our hostel served waffles.  It was awesome.  Our first stop was the Museum of Terror.  Budapest’s Museum of Terror used to be the headquarters for the Arrow Cross organization, the Hungarian dudes who controlled Hungary for the Nazis.  When the Soviets were all “Hey, Nazis, get the fuck out,” the Arrow Cross got replaced by an almost-as-bad Soviet dictatorship.  The Communist regime captured, tortured, and murdered hundreds of both Hungarians and foreign nationalists.  The building now serves as a memorial and museum.

We got in for free.  Students are normally half-off, but we get in free on the first Sunday of the month.  We did not know this was the case.  It was a pleasant surprise!  You’re not allowed to take pictures beyond the first room, but this is the memorial in the front.

This is the Soviet tank in the first room.  It’s big.
Sup.

The whole place is pretty powerful.  There are a lot of personal testaments to the torture and interrogations, as well as videos.  You also go down into the prisons where, in addition to a shit-ton of prison cells, you see things like the gallows (it’s in what Will and I called “the sad place”) and two torture cells.  In one torture cell, the “standing cell,” the person inside cannot sit, crouch, or do anything other than stand up straight.  People would be kept there for > 20 days.  There was another one where you can’t stand up straight.  You’re just hunched over constantly, and the guards would beat you if you sat down.  In one interrogation room, they had bludgeoning devices on the wall.  You get the idea.  It was not a fun place to be.

When we left there, Will and I went hunting for an antique shop (I still need that goddamn sword!).  We found them, but they were all closed.  Stupid Sunday.

After that, we hopped on the metro and went back to our hostel.  We had nothing to do before dinner, and the hostel was having a movie night.  We took an hour-and-a-half nap.  When we woke up, we met this dude from Wisconsin named Dan.  We ended up playing an AWESOME board game called War on Terror with Dan and Paul/Jess, our friends from the other night.   If you become the Evil Empire, you have to wear the Balaclava of Evil.
This is Dan.  He is awesome.

Dan won.  Damn Wisconsin people.  Also, Will nuked Mongolia.  It’s a fucking great game.

Then, everyone at the hostel ordered pizza and watched Gangs of New York.  Sleepy time ensued afterwards.

Will’s Corner
Although I never go to be the evil empire and wear the balaclava, I was the only person to launch a nuke all game and destroyed more cities than everyone else put together.  But not in an evil way… I guess?

Dear Joe,
You wear the Balaclava of Awesome.
Love,
Will and Andy
