And One for Cops and Taxis

And One for Cops and Taxis

We barely got our train to Rome.  Our train left at 10:25, and we got into the train station at 10:24.  Luckily, the train was delayed 5 minutes, and we got on.  We made it just in time.  Whew.

We then got into Rome at about noon.  There was a baggage check, and we checked our backpacks there.  We didn’t feel like lugging our 14 kg (31 lb) backpacks around all day.  It was a day for exploration!

We wandered everywhere.  We went to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.  We didn’t go inside either because we had bought these crazy Roma Passes that last three days, and we didn’t want to activate them too early.  We walked around and got some cool views of the ruins.  We also ended up at the Capitoline museum.  It was cool, but there was some crazy wedding going on.

We wandered into a random church.  It was pretty cool on the inside, but it had the squeakiest floor in the entire universe ever.  EVER.  We couldn’t move without sounding like we were dragging a herd of baby rabbits everywhere.

It was too late to go to this restaurant that Mr. Kindle recommended (it was open only for lunch), so we ate somewhere else and wandered around more.  For ADVENTURE, we took a random tram somewhere.  We ended up in some park that Will had been to before during sophomore year.  We had beer and tasty dessert.  We both had warm brownies with whipped cream and stuff.  And crazy German beer.

It was time to seek dinner.  We walked past a weird Italian rock opera that was going on outside.  There were weird jester characters who seemed to only have two actions in the opera.  First, they jumped around.  Second, they crouched down and expanded their arms in some weird opera gesture that I don’t understand.  The main dude who was singing was so loud that we could hear him from blocks away.  We had dinner.  It was uneventful (at least by the standards we’ve had in Italy).

Finally, we went to our hostel.  Let me start by saying that the name was “Camping Fabulous.”  It was indeed fabulous.  To get there, we had to take the Metro pretty much to the end of the line.  Then, there was a 20 minute bus ride to take us out of Rome and to this camping village.  EVERYONE on the bus got off there.  It was a packed bus, too.

We checked into Fabulous, and a dude in a golf cart took us to our room.  Did I say room?  I meant HOUSE.  For 15 Euro a night, we had a fucking HOUSE.  Check out this kitchen.

Check out this bed with a Will falling into it.

CHECK OUT THIS HAIR DRYER THAT WILL HAD MOUNTED IN HIS ROOM.

There was also a bathroom with a toilet and a bathroom with a shower.  Separately.  Oh, and we had an extra bedroom.  One for each of us, and one for…decoration, I guess?

15 Euro a night.  Bam.  (The room house normally goes for 80 Euro a night).

Will’s Corner
It’s weird how some places just stick with you. I probably could have drawn a map of that park from memory, but I had completely forgotten about it until I saw it again.

Dear Joe,
Three miles up.  Three miles down.  HI-HO, SILVER!
Love,
Will and Andy
